The Miss Dallas Scholarship Organization is a local franchise of the Miss Texas Organization and furthermore the Miss America Organization. We are committed to helping young women achieve excellence by providing positive growth opportunities. Our mission is to help young women build confidence, cultivate skills, promote healthy living, earn scholarships toward scholastic achievement, showcase strengths, and serve the community. Rich in history and social significance, the Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit organization that has maintained a tradition for many decades of empowering American women to achieve their personal and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence. The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Since the Organization’s inception in 1921, 89 women have become Miss America. The Miss Texas Organization was founded in 1936 by a group of civic minded citizens concerned about higher education. The first Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant has evolved into what is recognized today as one of the best organized and well managed of all state pageants. Phyllis George
Miss Dallas 1970, Miss Texas 1970, & Miss America 1971
An accomplished television broadcaster, author, entrepreneur and award-winning humanitarian, Phyllis George has been appointed to the Miss America Organization’s Board of Directors. George became the first pioneer female sportscaster in America co-anchoring the popular Emmy Award winning "NFL Today Show" on CBS with Brent Musberger and Irv Cross from 1975-1984. She co-hosted three Super Bowl broadcasts and six Rose Bowl Parades in Pasadena, California. She was the first female co-host of "Candid Camera". In 1985 she became the co-anchor of the "CBS Morning News" broadcast once again interviewing some of the great newsmakers in the world. She had another first when she became the first woman to found her own chicken company – Chicken by George. While raising her young children she started the company in the kitchen at her historic home – Cave Hill Place - in Lexington, Kentucky. Chicken by George is now a division of Hormel Foods – a 3.5 billion dollar company. She has been named one of the “Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World”. She was also recently named one of the “50 Greatest Women in Radio & Television” by American Women in Radio & TV.
Michelle Martinez MetzgerMiss Dallas 1996, Miss Texas 1996, & Top 10 at Miss America
Michelle Martinez placed among the top ten finalists at the 1997 Miss America Pageant, and she made a record-breaking 422 appearances during her year of service as Miss Texas. She used her scholarship and graduated cum laude from Southern Methodist University.
Miss Dallas, Miss Texas, and Miss America are role models to young and old alike, and a spokesperson, using her title to educate Americans on an issue of importance to herself and society at large. In 2000, state and local contestants collectively participated in 12,384 community-service projects, dedicating a total of 571,177 hours and raising millions of dollars for worthy causes. This past year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. Almost all contestants have either received, or are in the process of earning, college or postgraduate degrees; utilizing Miss America scholarship grants to further their education. The Organization not only gives monetary rewards, it also provides each contestant a forum to express to audiences their viewpoints, talents, and accomplishments during the pageant as well as to the public-at-large during the ensuing year. More than just a title, Miss Dallas, Miss Texas, and Miss America are women who reflects a tradition of Style, Service, Scholarship and Success.
