Kelsey Cartwright

Kelsey Cartwright is majoring in Biomedical Science at Oklahoma City University and will be graduating in Spring 2012. Although beginning her college career as a Dance Management major, Kelsey realized that with the scholarship money she had won competing in the Miss America Organization, she could continue past an undergraduate degree and pursue a masters to become a Physician’s Associate. At OCU Kelsey is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma honor society, Order of Omega, and is very active in her sorority, Alpha Phi. OCU is also where Kelsey met the love of her life. She met Matt in the Chemistry laboratory and after a few weeks of parading around to get his attention, she finally persuaded him to take her on a date. They were engaged one year later and just married this year in July!

Kelsey was crowned Miss Oklahoma 2008.  She worked throughout her reign to advocate for adoptee’s rights to know their medical history and heritage. Because Kelsey’s father was adopted, they were never able to embrace their family history or have access to their medical records because Oklahoma has a closed record policy. Throughout her year of service, Kelsey also made an impact on the youth of Oklahoma working for the America Cares for Children organization. She traveled Oklahoma giving presentations to students of all ages about the importance of making good decisions, living a healthy lifestyle, and being the best that they can be. Kelsey had, herself, competed for 3 years before she won a local pageant. She entered 11 local pageants before she captured the second-to-last pageant of the year, Miss Keystone Lake. Even with little time to prepare and entering as a rookie, Kelsey walked away with a Swimsuit preliminary award, Rookie of the Year, the Brooke E. Hailey scholarship, and the title of Miss Oklahoma 2008, proving that no matter the circumstance, dreams can come true!

As full time students, Kelsey and Matt now spend their time studying, playing with their furry children “Bear”, “Chloe”, “Sparkles”, and “Jehosaphat”, drinking coffee, and watching Football! Kelsey feels blessed for the opportunities she was given, and is thankful for the memories and experiences that came from her reign as Miss Oklahoma.
